Travel
If you need advice about getting around Norfolk just contact us. It is best by car. Rural bus travel is ok but it is mainly from Norwich to main market towns, there is a Coastal Hopper Bus.

The best option is a car or hire car. Rail is around 1hr 50mins from London Liverpool St every half hour, and from Cambridge, Ely, Peterborough. Flights from Exeter and Amsterdam shuttle plane every hour, to Norwich International Airport. Coach is regular from London Victoria, Cambridge, Ely. Trains from Norwich to Coastal areas like Cromer, Sheringham is regular.  If you want a day in the city there are park-&-rides off the main A47 accessed via the A140 or 1067. You can also get a bus from Briston or Foxley to the City.   

Holt
Beautiful, Historic, Georgian Market Town, supermarket, Banks, Fresh Fish/Veg shops. Larners Delicatessen, cafes, crafts, gifts, book shop, antiques, boutiques, pubs. Sign posted from Briston and Melton Constable. About 15 mins drive from woodland.

Come out of Briston take a left onto the main road B1354 through Melton Constable. Take a right onto the B1110 to Holt. I recommend the Moroccan Wine Bar Balthazar's. Small, but warm atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Aylsham (ale sham)
Historic market town. Petrol station not 24hrs, Live music at The Unicorn on Fridays, good pub food at The Black boys on Market Sq evenings. Has two supermarkets, banks, petrol. G.A Keys Auctions every Monday mornings. Great for nik naks or select pieces. Take away food. Access to Blickling Hall Historic Stately Home and Gardens and a bit further an award winning restaurant called The Walpole in Itteringham. Highly recomended.

Aylsham about 20 mins drive. From Briston, take the main road B1354 head south, at Saxthorpe take the B1149 and then take a left for the B1145 to Aylsham.

Reepham (ree fam)
Small, Historic Market Town. Bank, hotel, 3 pubs. Chemist, doctors, Petrol Station on School Road not 24hrs and closes at 5pm. The Old Brewery Pub open all day, serves Lunch and food after 6pm. It also has a small gym next door, squash, sauna, and a small, heated, indoor pool. Seating at the front and nice courtyard garden outside. The Kings Head serves food after 6pm and lunch on weekends, there's live trad Jazz on Sunday lunch times, it has courtyard garden and seating.  The Crown on the outskirts is more of a drinkers place with sky TV, football etc. Shop with basic foods and alcohol, disposable BBQs, open 7am to 10pm, hairdressers, health foods, veg shop and 2 butchers, Organic meats available. Fishery available for those wanting to fish.

Chinese food/fish & chips take away by a Vietnamese family on Back Street behind the Kings Head Pub. (closed Mondays). Access to Booton's award winning pub for great food called The Rat Catchers, follow the Reepham Road past the two churches on your right hand side, the post office is on your left side. Carry on out of Reepham past the fishery over a little bridge, until a left hand turn at Booton. Stay on this road, it will take you all the way to the Pub. About half way there is a haunted Church (managed by a Trust) with pretty and unusual spires. Why not take a look around.

Directions to Reepham:
From the Main outer woodland gate, take a right back up Craymere Road. Once at the crossroads a left takes you into Briston, so take a sharp right for Reepham. Stay on this wibbly wobbly, narrow lane for approx 6 miles. It takes you all the way to Reepham and becomes the Woodalling Road. You end up at the suburban T-Juntion for Station Road. Take a right and this takes you along Station Road directly into Reepham. At a small crossing take a left and you are in the market square. On your way back, take Station Road and get back on to the Woodalling Road on your left, it has a swing sign on the corner saying Reepham Garage Services. A handy marker. The local spar shop open till 10pm Mon-Sat and 9pm on Sunday nights is next to the two churches, famous for being back to back!

Heydon
Feudal village, haunted. Has one very old, great pub The Earl and a beautiful church/ village green. The pub is open evenings and take cash! Access this pub by taking a RIGHT from Briston, get onto the B1149 Heydon is about 10 mins drive along sign posted on the Right.  

Briston
Has two shops and a pub called the Green Man, does not serve food. Shop open till 9pm.

Foxley, Foxley Wood and Bawdeswell
Take main road out of Briston heading left along the B1354 through Melton Constable. Take the left B1110 towards Guist, after about 10 mins you'll meet the main road 1067, this is a main artery connecting Norwich to Fakenham and the Coast for the Burnham Market Areas. Head left towards Bawdeswell, Norwich. After about 5 mins you come to Foxley, take a left sign posted Foxley Wood and Village Hall. Carry along this narrow road for about 2 miles. The wood is on your right. Great for bird watchers. Famous for wild bluebells in April early May.

If you need any provisions come back onto main 1067 and head left to Bawdeswell. There's a great little pub there called the workman's and a large convenience store open 7am to 9pm, selling papers, alcohol, basic food, basic meat. The butchers is open in the mornings.

Norwich  
A large cathedral city with the usual night life and bars on offer lots of night clubs on Prince of Wales Road and Riverside near the train Station and Odeon Muli Screen Cinema. The University of East Anglia has the Sainsbury centre for visual arts. Norwich has The Castle with exhibitions, theatre, restaurants. Gay/lesbian bar and night club The Castle on Ketts Hill Road at the corner of Riverside Road and Moushold Hill, Norwich.

The Tombland area and Elm Hill opposite the Norwich City Cathedral has Sushi, Tapas, Traditional restaurants and Italian. Independent cinema and bar, called the Playhouse, good atmosphere.

All walkable, access for those disabled, contact the Castle Mall Norwich and ask for the Shop Mobility Scheme about scooter hire. Regular park and rides. Taxi about £6 across the city.   

North Norfolk Coast
Access the best coastline from Holt.

Take the A148 out of Holt heading towards Kings Lynn, take a right for the B1156. Keep on until you reach the coast road A149. If you head left you will find wonderful beaches and sites of interest such as Holkham. Wells-next-the sea has a cute little train taking you to the beech, great for walks, fish and chips. Blakeney and Morston have boat hire and trips to see the seals.

Seafood is highly recommended at Cookies in Salthouse. It gets very busy and booking is advisable. It is small and rustic and serves seafood at reasonable prices.

Cley has a great smoke house and a pub.

Langham and Langham Glass are very good for gifts.

Award winning restaurant Morston Hall Hotel and Restaurant.

Morston quay is lovely and relaxing. There's a little National Trust Tea shed too!   

There are wildlife parks dotted around Norfolk, walks, swimming, horseriding and other activities.
